Dear Friends of Akhal-Tekes,
ATAA members get off to a good start in 2019 with the ATAA Winter Newsletter, see snip of first page to the left.
This 24-page, news-filled edition is thanks to our volunteer newsletter editor, Cathy Leddy, and all the members who have contributed stories, expertise and articles.
In “Horses and Leopards,” the newsletter takes you into the heart of Turkmenistan with wildlife biologist Tatjana Rosen, as she adventures in the Sunt Hasardag Reserve.
Or join Olwen Busch with Turkmen Tours, as she seeks a couple of more ATAA adventurers to round out her April 22-29, 2019 trip to Turkmenistan.
At the ATAA we’re looking forward to another busy year, working together:
Shows, Competitions, and Gatherings
May 9—12: The Stewardship Awards of North America (SANA), at the Western States Horse Expo in Sacramento, California
2019 ATAA Conference in Clarksburg, Ontario, Canada, hosted by Giles and Katrina Ardiel, date TBA
September 24-29: Dressage at Devon, Akhal-Teke in-hand classes, Devon Pennsylvania
October 25-27: AHA/ATAA Distance Horse National Championships, Vinita, Oklahoma
As an ATAA member in good standing, you are eligible for 2019 Incentive Awards.
We are launching our VNIIK registration project, with volunteers assisting owners of prioritized purebred Akhal-Teke horses who need assistance getting these horses registered in the closed Akhal-Teke master studbook, held in Russia, while also building the strength of our own American registry.
The ATAA Board is working hard to build a supportive community to preserve and promote the Akhal-Teke horse in North America. We’re working with researchers to better understand potential genetic losses, and how we can help this community to preserve and build on the marvelous horses we have.
We count on the collective wisdom and feedback of you, our members, as we move forward together.
Enjoy your ATAA Winter Newsletter!
