The new HorseFlicks series on the Akhal-Teke have arrived! The DVDs have arrived! The ATAA produced a half hour promotional video with the company HorseFlicks, about the Akhal-Teke, in the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC) Series titled ‘Extinction is Forever’. The intention of this series is to highlight the breeds on the Critical, Threatened, and Watch categories of the ALBC’s Conservation Priority List. As you know, the Akhal-Teke is listed as threatened on this list. This series is to be aired at least 18 times over a 36 month period (it could air as many as 30 times with bonus episodes). HRTV is reaching our target audience.
We had over 27 horses and over 30 people participate in 3 separate film locations around the country. Thank you to all of them! We will be sending at least one to every person that either donated to this film or participated in it (one for each) in the next few weeks, but we are offering to sell these too. All ATAA members will also receive one in their membership packet, which will be going out in early April. This would be another great thing to play at Expos or Breed Barns and a wonderful gift to give to potential buyers. Please get your orders in asap, so we can send all the DVDs at once. Some comments from viewers: "Absolutely stunning video, every horse person should watch it!" Sally O. "I got a little verklempt (choked up) when you talked about the loyalty and special bond of the Akhal-Teke!" Susan P. "I just got finished watching the wonderful DVD. " Keira W. ATAA Yearly Awards Outline
Guidelines and Rules: DEADLINE: AUGUST 22nd, 2014!! The awards outlined below are for ATAA members only. *Exception see Junior Achievement* We will use the overall votes to determine the winner, so the more people that vote the better chance to win, in case of a tie the President or Vice-President may be asked to step in for the tie breaker, as long as one of them is not up for the award. The “Leadership Award” will be voted on by board/committee members. Junior Achievement Award: A youth (<18) who participates in promoting the breed and/or the registry. The youth does not need to be a member to be nominated for this award, but THIS IS NOT a riding award. This award is to recognize an activity or project outside of riding, examples being a project for school, a 4-H poster, educational program through Pony Club etc. Please send either pictures of the project or a short description of what the said youth’s project entailed. Publicity Award: Any registered horse or member who brings the breed and/or registry into the public eye (example: magazine article, newspaper, television, etc). Golden Achievement Award: A member >60 years old that has actively promoted, volunteered, or somehow contributed to furthering the breed or registry. Leadership Award: A board or committee member in the Assocation that shows great skills in leadership, ambition, promotion, and teamwork amongst fellow members. Endurance Award: A member that actively competes in endurance rides on a registered horse. Dressage Award: A member that actively competes in dressage shows on a registered horse. Eventing Award: A member that actively competes in horse trials or three day events on a registered horse. Jumping Award: A member that actively competes in jumper shows on a registered horse. Open Show Award: A member that actively competes in open shows (any discipline) on a registered horse. Contact Catrina Quantrell at [email protected] or 509-823-0877 or Betsy Wandler at [email protected] or 858-486-1750 to nominate someone (or yourself!) We will have some great awards this year, make sure you are eligible and nominated! Hi! Betsy here, just a friendly reminder that I need lots and lots of pictures for our first ever ATAA photo yearbook! If you have any pictures from Sept 2012-current to contribute of competitions, training, trail rides, foals, last year’s conference, or even hanging out with your Tekes I would greatly appreciate it. Deadline is September 14 for photos!
Please contact me with any questions. Betsy Wandler [email protected] Hi everyone, here are the latest updates:
1. The HorseFlicks contract is signed and on its way to Jon along with the deposit check. 2. Catrina Quantrell is donating pulled pork and buns for the Saturday night ‘after filming’ party. So, please plan to bring side dishes, desserts and drinks. I will have water for during the day available. 3. We don’t know exactly what the schedule will be for Saturday. Some will depend on what Jon wants, some can depend on if people need to arrive later on. Let me know if you have needs we can work around. 4. Make sure I know how many stalls you need before the actual date. Most of you already have, but if you haven’t, please let me know. Also, if you need an RV set up, let me know. 5. Bring all the tack, show clothes etc that you have. Everyone will get to do double duty. 6. Bring your friends along too – not only will we need extra helpers (no doubt), but it will be lots of fun. If you know of anyone else that might be interested, please pass the word! I have included some people that have said they can’t come, but I’m still hoping that might change. Thank you, Cathy and Tish We are signing the HorseFlicks Akhal-Teke Rare Breeds episode contract today! We have 3, count ‘em, 3 filming locations around the United States to give as many people and horses as possible the opportunity to participate in this once in a lifetime promotional event.
Pacific NW – Washington State Horse Park, August 10th Midwest- Spring Creek Stables at the ATAA Yearly Conference, October 4th South(ish)- Kentucky Horse Park, October 12th or 13th. We’ve had a great outpouring of donations (thank you to everyone that has donated), but of course, a little more wouldn’t hurt! There are always incidental costs that we don’t anticipate. Donations may be sent to ATAA Treasurer, Amrita Ibold, 2097 W. Valley Rd, Friday Harbor, WA 98250, and please mark them ‘HorseFlicks’. Anything left over will be put in the promotion fund for our next promotional event. If you’d like more information or think you might like to participate (or donate), please contact Cathy Leddy at [email protected], Tish Saare at [email protected] or Terri Fender at [email protected] Thank you, Cathy, Tish and Terri Hi everyone,
We’ve gotten a great response in the first few days of announcing this wonderful opportunity for both the breed and YOU, BUT, to sign that contract, we need more: HORSES – EAST COAST- So far, we’ve only had a few people that will take their horses to the location on the East Coast. Unless we have more horses and especially more that can do something exciting, we’ll have to change or cancel that. If you could take your competition horse to Virginia (or if you have a better idea), please let us know as soon as possible. WEST COAST- We’re looking into several locations in Washington, but are getting a pretty good response. The more the merrier though, so if you think you can come, email me. MID WEST- We’re gotten a few more horses that will come to the Conference for filming, so that is looking good. MONEY- yes, money. We’ve had a great outpouring of support and have had over $2800 pledged so far, but that is a long way from $5800. Please, any amount will help! If you’re not sure what kind of production HorseFlicks can do, email me and I’ll send you a copy of the last one that was done, so you can see for yourself. The Akhal-Teke Horseflicks episode is one of their most popular and is still being played on National TV, 5 years after it was made, according to Jon Mays, the film director. This one could be even better. If you can pledge an amount, please contact me, Cathy Leddy at [email protected] or Terri Fender at [email protected] Thank you to everyone! Cathy Hi Everyone!
We now have the dates for the 2012 Akhal-Teke Conference to be held in Washington State outside of Seattle (SeaTac airport). It will be held Sept 21, 22, 23. Amrita and I are co-hosting this year’s conference and we’ll have more information on it very soon. Come have a great time with us – we’ll see you there! Cathy and Amrita The July Horse Illustrated issue features he Akhal-Teke as horse of the month.
The ATAA sponsored a full page ad to help breeders promote their farms. Next Cowgirl magazine is having a story on the Akhal-Teke as well. |
