The Rare Breeds Show is now done and in the history books (at least ours).  We had 38 Teke and Teke sporthorses compete, quite a few wonderful volunteers and lots and lots of congratulations from exhibitors, volunteers and spectators.  We have a lot of ideas of how to make the next show (!!!!) even better.  Here are some photos from the show, there will be plenty more coming.

Directions and check in procedures for the Rare Breeds Show:

DIRECTIONS The Virginia Horse Center is located at 487 Maury River Road, on the northwest side of Lexington, Virginia directly off Route 11.  Our GPS locator is N 37° 48.5, W 79° 25.6. From the North:  I-81 South to Exit 191.  Proceed on I-64 West 1/2 mile to Exit 55.  Turn right on Route 11 North, and immediately left on Route 39 West.  The Virginia Horse Center is one mile ahead on the left.
From the South:  I-81 North to Exit 191.  Proceed on I-64 West 1/2 mile to Exit 55.  Turn right on Route 11 North, and immediately left on Route 39 West.  The Virginia Horse Center is one mile ahead on the left.
From the East:  I-64 West to I-81 South. I-81 South to Exit 191.  Proceed on I-64 West 1/2 mile to Exit 55.  Turn right on Route 11 North, and immediately left on Route 39 West.  The Virginia Horse Center is one mile ahead on the left.
From the West:  I-64 East to Exit 55.  Turn left on Route 11 North, and proceed 1/4 mile to stoplight. Turn left on Route 39 West.  The Virginia Horse Center is one mile ahead on the left.
=================================================== ARRIVAL and CHECK-IN PROCEDURES for the 2016 Festivale of Endangered Equines & SANA
LIABILITY WAIVERS:  Anyone handling horses MUST have a signed Festivale Liability Waiver (FLW) on file.  If you send one in with your entry, it's already on file.  If not, please see Nancy Phillips in the Equus Survival Trust booth in the Eastern Complex Reel Arena on the concourse
All of the below are in the Eastern Complex Reel Arena
STABLE Check-In:  EST Booth BEFORE unloading, proceed to the Eastern Complex Reel Arena concourse to the Equus Survival Trust booth.  Stall assignments will be given by EST staff member Nancy Phillips.  Have your current Coggins and, if not from Virginia, have a current Health Certificate for Stable Check-in.  Once you have your stall #'s you can unload and get your horses settled in before checking in as an Exhibitor or Volunteer.
VOLUNTEER Check-In: EST Booth All volunteers for ATAA and SANA must first check-in with Nancy Phillips at the Equus Survival Trust booth in the Eastern Complex Reel Arena on the concourse.  Nancy will give you your Volunteer Packets which will include your job description, area to staff & schedule. ATAA volunteers must then proceed to the ATAA show office in the Reel for further instructions.
EXHIBITOR Check-In: SANA Show Office ATAA and SANA Exhibitors must check in at the SANA show office in the Eastern Complex Reel Arena EXTERIOR entrance.  Katie Pinney, the SANA show secretary will give you your exhibitor #'s, update any class changes, and take post entries and your Exhibitor Packets.

SANA RARE BREED SHOW POST ENTRIES

You asked. We aim to please!
Many of you have expressed interest in post entries for the Equus Survival Trust's Stewardship Awards of North America (SANA). I am pleased to announce our EST board has agreed to allow post entries at the show.
...
Post entries fees will $5.00 more We prefer payment by check made out to Equus Survival Trust for SANA classes, to ATAA for ATAA breed classes, but cash will be accepted. NO credit cards. Sorry!

We have Breed classes for : Dartmoor, Gotland, Dales, Fell, Newfoundland, Caspian Horse, Akhal-Teke, Lippitt Morgan
ANY rare breed on the EST Equine Conservation List may compete in the Open Discipline classes: Over Fences, Pony Driving, Dressage, or Obstacles In-Hand or Ridden, as well as Best Unshod Foot Horse/Pony, Lead Line (rider 8yrs or under).
We especially encourage entries for the Historical Costume class that serves as a judged, narrated breed demo. It is a Top Five Class with lovely rosettes.
Please be SURE to review updated class listings via the EST website; several classes have been combined or eliminated.
The SANA & ATAA Show Office will be located in the Eastern Reel Complex.
All entries MUST have a current Coggins (1yr) and out-of-state horses MUST have a current Health Certificate to present at Check-In for your stabling.
NO horses are allowed to show out of trailers per the Virginia Horse Center without incurring a stall charge. We will allow one-day stabling for post entries @ $25. All stabling must be assigned by our EST Barn Manager, Nancy Phillips.

SANA BREED CLASSES
- In Hand -$20
- Ridden -$25
TEKE BREED CLASSES - $30 PAYABLE TO ATAA
SANA DISCIPLINE CLASSES
- Dressage - $25
- Driving - $30
- Over Fences -$25
- Obstacles In-Hand - $20
- Obstacles - Ridden - $25
ALL SPECIALTY CLASSES:
- Historical Costume - $10.00 Fee
- Best Foot - $10.00
- Lead Line - $5.00




Here is the official 2016 Class Schedule for the Akhal-Teke Breed Classes with class numbers.  
Entries will open on March 15th and close May 6th.   If you can't open the document, you can download the file below.

Check list: 
1. If you have a Teke or Teke cross, this is for you.  Anyone else needs to go directly to the SANA page for their classes.
2. Find your Breed Classes (such as #144 -2 year old colts and geldings in-hand )
3.  Fill out the ATAA entry form for Breed Classes only #136-#155, not Jumping, Hunters, Dressage, Obstacles or specialty classes, such as Best Hoof.
4. Fill out the SANA entry forms for ALL OTHER CLASSES, stabling forms, sign the liability waiver and send this plus any other requested items; registration eligibility, coggins, health cert to SANA, NOT the ATAA, along with your check for stabling and SANA classes
5. Send ATAA entry form with ATAA monies ONLY (Breed (in-hand and ridden) classes are $25 a class, to 21314 129th Ave SE, Snohomish, WA 98296  (or email me at

6. You will receive confirmation emails from both SANA and ATAA.

2016 Rare Breed Show

 The ATAA is sponsoring the Akhal-Teke day at the 2016 Equus Survival Trust's Rare Breeds Show, June 14, 15 and 16, 2016 in Lexington, VA at the Virginia Horse Park. http://www.horsecenter.org/About.aspx

All Akhal-Tekes and Akhal-Teke sporthorses will be welcome, ATAA registered or not, ATAA members or not.  Horses may also compete in the Open Classes at the show. 

The ATAA will also have our 2016 General Membership Meeting on Tuesday evening.  $15 pays for food and beverage service.  Paypal button here.

All lectures and SANA banquets are Open and Free to all Show Attendees (ATAA General Membership Meeting is separate)
