2008 Akhal Teke mare Hoanna at the 2012 MN State Fair in Open 2'6" Hunter over fences and Limited Children's Hunter over fences 2'9"-3'0 Division. See her video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWICgasmfI4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWICgasmfI4 We had our annual conference September 22-23 in Snohomish and Friday Harbor WA.
We had our board meeting Friday night, with member meet and greet, Saturday morning the membership meeting with lunch, in the afternoon horse demonstrations at Cascade Gold Akhal-Tekes and a barefoot trimming demo with Jeny Rice. To end the day with the awards banquet and silent auction ending. For those also going to Sweet Water Farm Akhal-Teke it was an early dash for the ferry Sunday morning. After the ferry ride all the horses were visited, then an outdoor lunch with horse demos in the afternoon. It was great to see everyone, meet new people, conductive meetings were held, and see the horses! And if you are interested in other HorseFlicksTV series, here is the near term schedule. All Times are Eastern Time. Enjoy! Saturday August 25th 8:30 AM HorseFlicks "Akhal-Teke: The Heavenly Horse" Hi All,
The FOTATA awards are going to be previewed at the conference - but not presented. The deadline for FOTATA program entries is in December, so there's still a lot of time left for fall riding and entering that program. I'm going to bring the awards for the FOTATA to the conference as a preview, but they will be sent to the recipients in December after the deadline expires. It's a totally different program from the ATAA registry awards. People are still competing internationally well into November. The ATAA awards will definitely be presented at the conference. I'll bring some nomination sheets with me, and some extra awards materials - in case people want to nominate someone right there at the conference. -Shannon. We got contacted by Cowgirl Magazine a few months ago, and they ran an article about the Akhal-Teke breed. We are excited that there is yet another publication interested in the breed! It is the May/June copy 2012. And a scan of the article. Jas Shearer-McMahon of Magic Valley Akhal-Tekes competed her purebred Akhal-Teke gelding, MV Patrikhan at the Shamrock Endurance ride in Colorado, July 2012. Here are photos from the ride:
New baby for Cascade Gold Akhal-Tekes! From Cathy Leddy: "We had a gorgeous palomino colt born early on July 3rd, by Salam x Astra. There are more photos on the Cascade Gold website and Facebook page."
From Sweet Water Farm Akhal-Teke
We took 4 Tekes and a pony to the pre-fair jumping classes last Friday. Sonja rode Kegas, Zoe Paelka, Jenny Penta and me Paktaly. We did not know that in 4-H you are not allowed to jump in a hackemore, and that is what Sonja and Kegas are using, so they were not eligible for ribbons. They did have very good rounds and would have been in the ribbons... Napoleon the pony and Marina did great, Marina's first show ever! They got 2 ribbons and the jumior high score overall! Zoe and Paelka got placings, and we were tied in Gambler's choice! And had a jump off! Penta did great...his first show, and his entry got mixed up, instead of jumping the 2'4 class they put him in the 3'' class! And he got a ribbon in that class! Paktaly was great, and we got the high score senior overall! From Kirsten Anderson: I just feel lucky I'm able to lease her! We went to a hunter/jumper, dressage shooling show called Three Ring Circus at Carriage House Farm in Hugo, Minnesota. Hoanna was doing hunter. I've attached a picture, that's me riding her. I didn't place with her but her trainer/my instructor did. She was in the low 2' Hunter division and placed 2nd out of 30 horses in both her classes with Staci Gust, her trainer/my instuctor.
